Abstract The previously developed analytical method for the exact resolution of quantum mechanical problems of collisions is considered. The correctness of the analytical expansion of the wave function in the vicinity of irregular singular points and the possibility of obtaining the scattering phase by direct examination of the power series expansion of the wave function in the asymptotic region are investigated. New dispersion relations are derived, and the relation between the function D/sub 1/(k) and the Smatrix is established. The theory is applied to the solution of problems on elastic scattering of S-, P-, D-, F-, and G-electrons on atomic hydrogen and helium. The fast convergence of the wave function is investigated. The results of S- and P-wave calculations are compared with numerical integration. The exact wave functions for the scattering of D-, F- , and G-electrons on atomic hydrogen are obtained. (tr-auth)
