Abstract A more general solution of magnetohydrodynamic stability, in which the vortex sheet is a current sheet with no normal component of the magnetic field and the fluid is assumed to be perfectly conducting, is obtained. The solution is of interest because the outer surface of the earth's magnetosphere forms a current-vortex sheet and it is desired to know whether or not this surface is stable. (P.C.H.)
