Phantom diameters of 18, 24, and 30 cm and focus field sizes between 3 x 6 and 8 x 16 cm were used for these measurements. The different influences were very complex and often difficult to understand. The relative surface dose does not depend greatly on the geometrical conditions chosen. In regard to a high dose rate it is recommended that a source-axis distance of about 60 cm and a sourcediaphragm distance of about 30 cm be chosen for the rotational irradiation with Co/sup 60/.
