Abstract The possibility of using superconductors in various applications to effect savings in power used and size of equipment requires knowledge on the effects of particle absorption in the solenoid. A solenoid of 75% Nb--25% Zr wire is bombarded with 440-Mev protons and brought into superconduction. Finally, normal conduction is found to result from deliberate raising of current, never from interactions producing heat spikes that cause transition to the normal state.
