Abstract This book describes the process by which biologists can capture the properties of biological systems within the framework of mathematical structures. Even though it is mathematical in nature, the author places no strong mathematical demands upon the reader. This volume should be of interest to those who are developing models and conducting simulations in the biomedical field as well as in basic biology. The author draws primarily from biology in the development of the mathematical models in the book.
