Abstract This brief report outlines some recent results of our research program involving applications of cybernetic concepts and artificial intelligence techniques to automation of business problem solving. Specifically, it reports an application of generalized perceptron-type pattern recognition techniques to (at least partial) automation of investment decision making. As man-machine systems, we have implemented investment decision systems programming both, stock market timing and investment selection. They were tested in actual investment analysis, and their performance was then gradually improved with the aid of machine learning algorithms. The experimental results indicate that with such techniques investment performance can be improved.
