Abstract Benzotriazole has been in use for many years for protection of steel alloys against various forms and various environments of corrosion. In this paper, efficiency and applications of BTA in different environments are summarized. More than 50 papers were collected and reviewed. Survey of reported work in acidic, aqueous, and miscellaneous environments is documented. It was concluded that BTA acts as a good corrosion inhibitor with high efficiency. In most cases, adsorption of BTA follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Mechanism of BTA inhibition can be attributed to effect on cathodic reaction and to less extent on both cathodic and anodic reactions.
