Abstract supports the attainment of a Body of Knowledge for entry into the practice of civil engineering at the professional level. This would be accomplished through adoption of appropriate engineering education and experience requirements as a prerequisite for licensure. ” The Body of Knowledge (BOK) required to support the policy statement is being developed. Presently, the BOK recommended includes 15 outcomes which are designed to broaden and deepen the 11 current outcomes required by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). This paper presents data that indicate civil/construction engineering programs at the bachelor’s level may presently be satisfying, to some degree, 14 of the 15 BOK outcomes. These include outcomes that are identical or similar to the 11 ABET requirements. Nevertheless, for comparative purposes, the findings of the investigation could be utilized by other institutions and departments that may wish to study their curriculum and/or develop a system of evaluation to measure the achievement of BOK outcomes and objectives.
