Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the current situations of physical education in elementary schools in Taiwan. The researcher developed the study questionnaires and got 408 samples from elementary school teachers of physical education. The study results show the current situations of curricula implementation is good. The main influential factors of curricula implementation are insufficient in playing fields, equipments, resources, and some teachers are disagree the concept of physical education and health education as a whole. The teachers in the physical education departments are better applying the physical practice than the teachers do in the general education departments in the current situations. The teachers who have the 11 to 20 years teaching experience are better to preach the professional physical spirits than the teachers who only have five or less than five years teaching experience. There have no difference in current situations among teachers ’ genders, and varied sizes of schools. Other related factors show the degree of matching up on the factor of teacher self than other factors. The study result proves that the teachers, who have following factors as male, having 11 to 20 years teaching experience and from the physical education departments, can better apply the physical practices. There is significant correlation between the related factors and the current situations. The factor of teacher self are the most important factor of physical education implementation.
