Abstract Introduction Single-cod CDMA (SC-CDMA)and multi-cod CDMA (MC-CDMA) systems have been intensively stud6F for applications to future wireless communication systems [1]--[5]. The capacities of the systems are id] tical in theid]x case wherespread6P co d channels are orthogonal [3], [4]. However, in real environments the orthogonality is lostds to multipath propagationand ddaga t cod e channels in MC-CDMA systems interfere with each other. This mutual interference a#ects link capacityand user signal power, both of which are important factors ford]6'6FF]fi6LE of the system performance. This e#ect was not consid6]fi in previousstudou [3], [4]. In this letter, the performance of SC-CDMAand MC-CDMA systems is evaluated for varying system parameters, such as spread]fi band]fi6x tra#c load and the number ofspreadF] co d] assigned to a user.
