Abstract the largest hydropower project in the world, was completed in June 2006 but has been impounding and alter-ing river fl ow since 2003. Large dams impact river ecosystems and services, and aquatic biota are affected by fl ow and temperature modifi ca-tions, water chemistry changes, and migration blockage (McAllister et al. 2001; Nilsson et al 2005). Xie (2003) warned specifi cally of poten-tial impacts of TGD to ancient fi sh species of the Yangtze, and Fu et al. (2003) similarly warned of impacts to a broad array of native species.
