Abstract The favourable climate conditions of the Southeast Europe and the recent legislation for the utilization of renewable energy sources provide a substantial incentive for the installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems. In this paper, the simulation of a grid-connected photovoltaic system is presented with the use of the computer software package PVsyst and its performance is evaluated. The performance ratio and the various power losses (temperature, soiling, internal network, power electronics) are calculated. There is also calculated the positive effects on the environment by reducing the release of gases that cause greenhouse effect.
