Abstract Ion-exchange equilibria in seven systems involving divalent ions have been investigated over the temperature range 0 to 97.5 deg using sulfonic acid type (Dowex50) resins. In all exchanges between two divalent ions, the equilibrium constant decreases with increasing temperature, with a resulting negative value for DELTA H/sup 0/. This is apparently characteristic of exchanges between ions of the same valence type since for ail exchanges between two univalent ions negative DELTA H/sup 0/ values have also been observed. With the exception of the cupricmagnesium system, the values of DELTA S/sup 0/ for ail exchanges between two divalent ions are positive. For the magnesium-hydrogen exchanges DELTA /sup 0/ and DELTA S/sup 0/ are positive. The algebraic signs of these functions are identical with those of the cupric-hydrogen system already reported.
