Abstract In an earlier analysis of the effect of magnetic fields on thermionic diodes (A. Schock, J. Appl. Phys., 3l: 1978 (1960)), numerical results indicated that under certain conditions the fraction of emitted electrons reaching the collector equals the sine of the angle at which the magnetic field intersects the emitting surface. An analytic proof of this relation is presented. (auth)
