Abstract Striking domain patterns were observed at room temperature during transmission electron microscopy of cold-rolled foils of zone-refined Nb annealed at 1300 deg C in a vacuum of 10⁻⁶ torr and then electropolished. After observations of the patterns, it is concluded that the Nb lattice must be distorted, the boundary separating two regions whose axes of distortion are along different directions. (R.E.U.)
