Description This is the 16th chapter of the book “Social Studies: Class 8”. The chapter deals with the Abolition of Zamindari System. When India became independent, the biggest challenge faced by the country was acute poverty, especially in the rural areas. A very large proportion of peasants were landless.Some of them leased in lands belonging to landlords to whom they had to pay rent and do forced labour.
